Eco-Friendly in a Jiffy

01st February 2019

Renovating? Redecorating? Or simply, reviving your home after a long winter? Before you do, consider these green décor tips that will save the environment – and believe it or not – your health too.

Green’s a GO!
If you haven’t added plants to your home by now, you haven’t been paying attention. We’re obsessed with greenery – and you should be too. Not only is green a 2019 colour palette trend as predicted by the Pantone Colour Institute, but indoor plants reduce stress; increase productivity and make you a better person by up to 15%*.

Keep it clean
If you’re looking for a fresh look all together, a lick of paint will do. Opt for a classic grey to keep things clean and simple (Benjamin Moore has settled on Metropolitan AF-690, a trendy grey with cool undertones, for its 2019 paint Colour of the Year), or go for a statement wall in an on-trend colour like deep teal to mix things up a little. Go for a lead free and low-VOC paint. Paints and finishes release low level toxic emissions into the air for years after application. The source of these toxins is a variety of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) which, until recently, were essential to the performance of the paint. New environmental regulations and consumer demand have led to the development of low-VOC and zero-VOC paints and finishes.

Don’t lose it, re-use it
Having a clear-out? Don’t throw your wash-basket or dustbin away once you’re done with it (or you think you are). Cover it with a trendy fabric and pop a plant in it – it will save you a ton of money and the durable plastic will probably outlive you and your plant. The concept applies across your household. Think out the box before you throw any plastic away because having more than a single use for a plastic item will drastically change the world we live in – for the better.

Cover it up
Your window treatments have a great impact on the aesthetics of your home. Depending on the look you’re going for you can choose between frosting, curtains, blinds or shutters. The most eco-friendly window treatments  offer a dual purpose (and if yours don’t, it’s time to redecorate). At Taylor Blinds and Shutters our Roller Blinds not only look spectacular, but they keep your furniture, floors and even your fruit looking good for longer due to their UV protection properties. And the less you have to replace the contents of your home, the lower your carbon footprint, and higher your bank balance (did someone mention a shoe shopping spree?!).

Low maintenance

Our Shutters are extremely low maintenance. They’re more effective than guard dogs at keeping bad elements at bay (you can’t trick your shutters with treats) and if they get a little grubby, simply give them a wipe down with a wet cloth. Clean as a whistle - no chemicals in sight.

It’s never been easier to go green while sprucing up your home – and you’ll be proud as punch knowing you’re doing the right thing.
